Midem, Cannes

Midem will no longer be held

The International Music Publishing and Recording Market (MIDEM) was the world's largest gathering of companies working in the music industry. Organised by Reed MIDEM, it has been held annually since 1967 in Cannes, France.

Midem (1967-2021) – the end of an era

by Marcel Kaufmann (FONDATION SUISA) and Erika Weibel (SUISA)

Midem in Cannes was the embodiment of a flourishing music business for decades. A tribute to one of the most glitzy and important international music trade fairs.

Since 1989, SUISA and FONDATION SUISA had organised the joint Swiss stand at Midem with the support of the Stiftung Phonoproduzierende (Foundation of phono producers). After this long-standing commitment to encourage networking between the Swiss music industry and its counterparts abroad, today we take a look back on this event.

Midem will no longer be held

January 2022

«Due to the lasting pandemic and following a review of its activity,
RX France has decided to no longer continue to organize the Midem event.» (midem.com, December 2021)

For several decades, SUISA and FONDATION SUISA, with the support of the Foundation of Phonoproducers, organised the Swiss umbrella stand at Midem.

With Midem, the world of music is losing one of its most traditional trade events. Since 1967, the fair had taken place annually at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, right on the Côte d’Azur. What remains are countless stories that were created during and thanks to Midem, and which very many music professionals will remember for a long time.
