WOMEX


WOMEX has been in existence since 1994 and is the most important trade fair for world music.

WOMEX stands for “World Music Expo” and is the biggest, most important trade fair for all kinds of world music including ethno, traditional and folk. This annual event is not fixed in any one place. The first WOMEX took place in 1994 in Berlin, and has since been held in other cities such as Bruxels, Marseille, Stockholm, Rotterdam, Newcastle, Seville, Copenhagen, Thessalonica, Budapest or Santiago de Compostela.

WOMEX 2018

The 24th WOMEX edition came to an end on 10/28/2018. With a new stand, a conference panel and an stunning showcase act, the 35strong Swiss delegation made a lasting impression.

East – Southwest – North: WOMEX really explores the European map. From Poland’s Katowice last year the World Music Expo moved over to Las Palmas on the Canary Islands before it is heading to Finland’s Tampere next year.

During the four days of the trade fair 2.700 international music professionals were gathering at the INFECAR congress center on the hill over Las Palmas and were afterwards listening to the night showcases at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus on the ocean front.

The Swiss participants met at the new umbrella stand SWISS MUSIC during the days, presented by FONDATION SUISA and Pro Helvetia. Artlink, cultural cooperation, introduced the SDC-financed SüdKulturFonds during the WOMEX conference. And as a highlight of the Swiss presence accordion-virtuoso MARIO BATKOVIC thrilled the professional audience with a solo-showcase on the Daycase on Saturday afternoon.

The WOMEX anniversary edition No 25 ist going to take place from 23 to 27 October 2019 in Tampere, Finland.
